I was told this game would be a more exciting version of my favourite game Fallout 3. They said it would have cool guns, co-op campaign, more variety of enemies and it would combine the shooter with RPG elements. This game is nowhere near as good as Fallout 3. The game itself is not very much fun, campaign is way to difficult and has no way of changing the level of difficulty. When ever you seem to level up in the game the enemies level up five times more, thus making it no easier then before, which seems to make levelling up pointless! The missions are repetitive and the characters are dull. The guns are boring and it takes a stupid amount of bullets/ grenades to kill an enemy! There are four main characters within the game, however, it only allows you to play 2 player missions. I was looking forward to a 4 player campaign. My final complaint would be that its a cartoon! I think that makes the game worse as it just makes the game look childish. If you’re looking to spend this much for a very average shooter, I’d pay just that tiny bit more for Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition, because its just that much better.

I bought the game today, and played about 11 hours by myself. It’s a great game, apart from horrific loading times. To me, it feels like fallout 3’s environment and world of warcraft’s party quest grinding. But I bought this game purely for the co-op experience. If I just wanted to play single player mode, I’d rather save the £30 and just expand my Fallout 3, as the gameplay is identical.
The game’s been let down by the PS3’s small online population (approx:120 people online at 8pm GMT Sunday). I struggled to find a decent game to play in. Far too many time’s I enter a game with players way above my level. When selecting a game to join, you’re only given the level of the host. Metal Gear Online gives the average level of the players in the game which I felt was far more useful. I don’t want to play with people double my level because I dislike being boosted, as it completely destroys the feel of co-op.
I only managed to join one or two games with players of a similar level, but each time I got kicked by them :/ . I’m seriously considering ditching the PS3 copy and getting a PC copy. The only game I’ve played recently with excellent co-op play was Left 4 Dead, but that lacked replayability in my opinion, playing same 4 maps over and over just got tedious. Also no RPG element… I enjoy gaining xp.
My conclusion would be to rent it just so that you can test out the online population. I myself will be returning my PS3 copy for a PC copy. I’d also like to add that you can level a character offline and use it online. Or you can start a new character online. A fantastic feature IMO. ^^

Had this game since launch and have been playing sporadically, this could have been a good game, a very good game if it wasn’t for the cardboard looking graphics and repetitive gameplay.
Enemies are constantly respawning, which is OK if you want to level quickly but for me it detracts from the gameplay having to fight the same enemies 60,000 times just to walk to a car spawn point.
The graphics are hideous, people go on about the cell shader but this is a game from the people who brought us bioshock and you would never know. The scenery can take an age to load, I would say it is like pop up but it is too slow to describe it as a pop, more like a fade up. Also slow down is a problem when faced with multiple enemies.
If you love Fallout3 then you will hate this, as 2K have demonstrated how NOT to make an RPG.
Save your money and just play through Fallout3 again as Borderlands is eye gougingly bad, and far to repetitive to warrant paying for it. Rental is a must.

I have this game for both the 360 and the PS3 (don’t ask why). I started first on the PS3 playing co-op with a mate and all worked fine until he started using elemental weapons as the Siren. Problem was that this created major lag for the both of us and me being a sniper, I was having a hell of a time trying to hit anything! You may be thinking it was our internet connection but we were playing split screen on the same console! The PS3 just couldn’t keep up with everything happening at the same time!
Then I started playing on the 360 with another mate and we had absolutely no problems at all (except for the occasional bug which the PS3 isn’t exactly free of)! I’m not saying the 360 is a better console cus after owning both I have found that the PS3 is a much smoother quieter machine. Just my advice would be don’t try and use the Siren alongside the sniper.
Also i played a short time online but i found that there was just enough of a delay between pulling the trigger and the weapon firing that you missed the target or atleast the critical spot. Being more of a FPS then an RPG, i found this to be quite annoying and has therefore stopped me from going back online again. This may well be my Internet connection but for Killzone i never had any problems.
I bought this mainly for the co-op part of the game but i would of also liked to see more of a structured storyline or more character customisation considering it claimed to be an RPG of sorts. I have finished the storyline and am on my second playthrough which is much more challenging but i have reached the maximum level, maxed out my money, got the best equipment available… I just have no urge to pick this game up again.
It was good while it lasted which is why I gave it 3 stars but if you’re thinking of buying it, get the 360 version. A good few hours of fun.
