PS3 YLOD Fix Part 2 of 2
Be sure to check out part 1 first. I’ve had a few different people ask about donations. Donations are not necessary and they’re not even expected, but they are appreciated. If I’ve helped you fix your PS3 and you would like to donate you can do so here. www.paypal.com Thank you in advance if you do decide to donate. Even if it’s a dollar it’s very appreciated.

What brand of thermal compound are you using? Does it matter?

Great vid!!! I did it all for 50.oo (Take That!!! Sony). At first my controllers were not recognized I then opened It up again and made sure that the ribon cables were placed properly especially the first one that’s removed. It wrks like a charm
Posted on March 20th, 2010 at 5:24 pm
@TheBlackholeX save finles will be fine
they are stored on the hard which is safely
removed in the begining of the process

ANOTHER MAJOR PROBLEM. SILVER SOLDER, im guessing as these units are destined for EU the joints are soldered with SILVER rather than a eutectic TIN/LEAD formula. SILVER SOLDER IS WAY LESS FLEXIBLE than ur normal TIN/LEAD, meaning less leftover flux for us to rework, MUCH more brittle as its not eutectic.
Posted on March 20th, 2010 at 6:01 pm
This repair shows that you can reflow the solder but important components ie flux will be missing. This repair will work under the required conditions but will leave brittle joints and will mean that the joint could be subject to breakage. Make sure to be even with heating like he shows coz if one side cools before the other side, it will tilt meaning only half solder joint connectivity.
I got a friend with prob(my PS is fine) and im a tech and i dont think i can be bothered doing it.

Posted on March 20th, 2010 at 7:23 pm
