Xbox 360 Repair: Opening the Console (Fix RROD)

Well, I had to fix my 360 again last night, so I decided to film a video about repairing it. The first step is obviously getting it open, and the Xbox 360 isn’t just held together with screws, so you’ll probably need some kind of guide to get it open (I know I did). You’ll need some screwdrivers, mainly a small flat one and a Torx T10 (for other parts you’ll also need a T8, such as to remove the ring of light/power button board or the X clamps). As for those asking for step 2, I don’t think I can make one. Sorry. For one, I’m now in college so I have a lot of work to do and 2, my last fix attempt was 4 months ago, and luckily for me (sadly for you) my 360 has been running great ever since. I think I finally got it 100% fixed, so that means I won’t be opening it up to film part 2. Doesn’t matter, as there are plenty of RROD fix videos out there already, just look for them.

Thanks a lot for posting this! Our xbox was a biggg dust machine. I do appreciate the typed out words verses actual talking, which makes it way easier because you can pause, read your instructions, and work on your xbox! Great video quality as well. Thanks again!!

The xbox won’t even read the disc. I don’t know how it would work if the Disc Drive doesn’t even recognize that a disc is in. I’ve already tried that so no.

well if its going to happen then get it fixed anyway you can. when you first buy one get a small vornado fan or really small round fan and turn it around so the back of the fan is facing the back of the xbox turn on the fan turn on the xbox and see how much cooler it stays. ive been using this method for over 2 years now and i cools the xbox down by at least 20 to 30 degrees. it feels like its not even running please try it does work

You can, and risk breaking the tabs (especially after multiple re-openings the tabs will get weak and break if you do that), or you can be careful and get it apart in one piece every time.
