Dead Rising 2’s Real Protagonist is…Keiji Inafune?

Zombies, like Nazis, are one of the most perfect videogame enemies; they’re mindless, soulless, and no one has any qualms about mowing them down by the hundred. So, it’s always fun to get to try out new ways to take out the undead, especially in Capcom’s zombie-killing simulator Dead Rising 2. And the only thing more fun than decapitating brain-hungry ghouls, is doing so with a friend — well, if you ever felt a little lonely playing the first Dead Rising, Capcom’s got you covered: At a recent press event, the company’s global head of R&D (and DR2’s executive producer), Keiji Inafune, was on-hand to walk a group of journalists through the game’s just-revealed co-op mode.

Similar to the jump-in-anytime multi-player in Fable 2, you can have an online friend join your game at any point — regardless of where they are in the story. Your friend won’t progress their narrative forward, but they will earn plenty of PP (Dead Rising’s name for experience points) and cash, which automatically export back over to their game. So, you can essentially play the entire game co-op; both players take on the role of lead protagonist Chuck Greene, though you only see one at a time during cut scenes.
