a hair dryer will NOT work! A 450 C heat gun will WORK! If you put too much heat paste on it will your PS3 will OVERHEAT within 10 mins so apply just a little

This method is only for a temporary use of the PS3, b/c once you have the Ylod, the ps3 isBASICALLY dead even after it is "fixed. " What you should do is either Pay $150+tax for a refurb'd slim to Sony ORpay $299 for a new PS3 Slim.
This method is inteded for:
----$cheap cheap way for temporary power restoration
----take advantage of the power to back up your saved files via external source(usb, harddrive)
--- transfer saved files to the your new ps3

Hello Madara96.
I an an engineer working for a company that repairs PS3, laptops, etc.
The reason why you are having problems is that the "fix" by gilksy1is only addressing the end result of the PS3 problem and not the original issue.
I would like to post the real problem but due to the threat of losing my job I cannot.
Many reading this will not like this answer, but I have no choice.
gilksy1's fix is like putting a bandage on a broken leg, it may appear as a fix but the leg is still broken.

I agree 100% that this is only a patch or temporary fix (not to mention that the extreme heat used by gilksy1 is beyond the thermal specifications of the BGA package thus introducing thermal stress)
I disagree that the PS3 cannot be properly fixed with this issue.
Once the original issue is corrected and the BGA ICs are PROPERLY reflowed, then the PS3 is really.
This is actually caused by a design flaw (that still exist in the new slim model but is a little bit better in managing the flaw)
