Sega’s Top Selling Games of the Last Year

Posted by admin On May - 15 - 2010

Sega has posted its fiscal year results and, in the process, revealed its best-selling games of the previous year.

As expected, the company’s report shows that Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games was by far the best-selling game for Sega, with Aliens vs. Predator, Bayonetta and Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing taking slots two through four.

Following yesterday’s reveal of the ten best-selling games of April, the NPD Group has launched an expanded top twenty list, revealing previously-absent data for Super Street Fighter IV, Monster Hunter Tri and more.

As Gamasutra reports, a deeper examination of the NPD’s data shows that Capcom’s Monster Hunter Tri — which premiered April 20 — came in 11th place. While sales data for the title was not revealed, we know that it sold somewhere between 108,000 and 143,000 copies.

The Best-Selling Games of 2010, So Far

NPD Data

Following up last week’s deluge of financial information from the company, Nintendo has launched a breakdown of the top-selling console and handheld games of the year so far. At the top of the list: Nintendo games, of course.

The report, spotted by GameIndustry.biz, catalogs sales estimates from January 2010 through the end of March, sourcing the NPD group for the U.S. numbers and GfK International for the European figures. Both sets of data list the 30 best-selling games for their respective regions.

New Super Mario Bros. Nintendo Wii led the U.S. charts, with fellow Nintendo juggernaut Pokemon Soul Silver nabbing the runner-up position. God of War 3 had the number three spot, followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii Sports Resort, and the Balance Board bundle of Nintendo Wii Fit Plus.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii Leads Japanese Sales This Week

New Super Mario Bros. Nintendo Wii

While hardware sales in Japan skewed more towards handheld games this last week, software sales are a different story altogether. According to the latest Media Create numbers, games for all major platforms — yes, including the Xbox 360 — made appearances in Japan’s list of best-selling games for the week of April 12 through 18.

New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Wii took the number one slot with 32,108 copies sold. Another Nintendo title, Tomodachi Collection for the DS, came in second place at 20,883 units, while Pro Baseball Spirits 2010 followed closely behind at 20,880 sold on the PSP and 19,104 on the PlayStation 3. The PS3 version of Hokuto Musou, the Fist of the North Star-themed spinoff of Dynasty Warriors, squeezed into the top five with 18,866 games sold.

The bottom half of the top ten features just as many familiar faces as it does total surprises. Pokemon Ranger: Tracks of Light moved 15,961 copies, putting it at number six for the week. The PS3 and Xbox 360 remakes of No More Heroes nabbed the next two slots, selling 15,763 and 15,153 units, respectively. Behind that are Nintendo Wii Fit Plus with 14,685 sold, followed by Yakuza 4 at 11,094.
