Just Cause 2, BioShock 2 DLC next week

Posted by admin On April - 20 - 2010

Next Thursday, April 29, will mark the arrival of additional down-loadable content for BioShock 2 and Just Cause 2, it’s been revealed.

Avalanche’s open-word explosion fest is getting the Black Market Aerial Pack for 160 MS Points/£2, which packs the F-33 DragonFly Jet Fighter, Multi-lock Missile Launcher and, most interestingly, Dual Parachute Thrusters.

BioShock 2’s add on on the other hand goes under the name of Rapture Metro Map Pack and comes with six new multi-player maps, a new multi-player rank of fifty, two additional masks, three achievements as well as a “Kill ‘Em Kindly melee mode.” That’ll go for 800 Microsoft Points / £10.

Both games’ content has been so far been confirmed for the Xbox 360 only, though we reckon it’ll release simultaneously on PC/PS3.

BFBC2’s first PDLC brings camo, awards, achievements

That first round of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 paid down-loadable content is arriving for the Xbox 360 tomorrow, the game’s official blog informs.

Those additional map variations may have been free, but special camo’s going to cost you.

Available will be four kits, one for each class, which come with new uniforms and camouflaged guns and weapons (M16A2, UMP-45, MG3 and M95 SNIPER) to give those with some extra MS Points lying around that much needed “visual edge” (pic).

12 new awards and 4 Achievements are also included.

North American players can redeem the DLC using Dr Pepper codes from promotional cans, while Europeans will have to shell out 160 MS Points for each individual kit or 440 for the lot.

PC and PlayStation 3 users will get the content “later on”.

Nier gets launch trailer now, DLC later

Square Enix’s Nier is getting down-loadable content, executive producer Yosuke Saito has confirmed. Siliconera caught the news from an interview posted on Xbox’s Japanese website.

Having previously said that the team at developer Cavia has some interesting post-launch content ideas, Saito revealed that work on said content began straight after the game’s completion.

“In fact, this title has distribution ideas for down-loadable content, work began immediately after completing the main story… how should I say it, we’re just making it now,” Saito’s translated as saying. “I don’t have the feeling of being finished. (haha)”

The game’s out on April 23 in Europe and the 27th in North America. The three-minute launch trailer above is recent, too.

(!) Can’t read content

Paid content, will it still be able to be downloaded if it got accidently deleted etc.

Can you still download stuff on the 1st Xbox (never had one so wouldnt know) even though the 360 has succeeded it?

It just worries me that all the money ive spent on XBLA will one day count for nothing if i cant get my content back

Splinter Cell Conviction to Offer Free Weekly DLC

Posted by admin On April - 14 - 2010

It looks like Ubisoft has learned a thing or two from EA’s free down-loadable content incentive ideas — but instead of including club access for new purchasers, the company is offering goodies for free to all comers. Ubisoft sends word that the first, a MP7A1 Machine Pistol, will be available through the game’s “Extras” menu starting tomorrow. Other planned bits of content will hit on Thursdays, and include other guns and weapons, skins, and a Deniable Ops map.

EA has been supplying similar free DLC incentives to purchasers of new copies in games like Mass Effect 2. But Ubisoft seems to be offering these packs for free to all. EA’s strategy has been regarded as a fairly successful way to reward new purchasers, so we’ll have to see how Ubisoft’s slightly different method affects their bottom line. Check out our video game review (above) if you’re still on the fence.

Splinter Cell: Conviction to get weekly DLC

Posted by admin On April - 14 - 2010

Ubisoft laid out their down-loadable content strategy for Splinter Cell: Conviction today; to be made available every Thursday, for free, will be content ranging from the aesthetic to practical. Players can expect additional guns and weapons, skins, as well as a new Deniable Ops maps to freshen up how things look and play, the company says.

Hopefully there’ll be something else down the line as well.

First up will be a new weapon, the MP7A1 machine pistol pictured above, which can be found through the game’s ‘Extras’ menu tomorrow.

Ad reveals Split/Second DLC plans

Posted by admin On April - 9 - 2010

Split/Second will be getting down-loadable content, an advertisement in Edge magazine’s latest issue informs.

According to the ad, pre-orders from UK online retailer Play.com will include the “first DLC pack,” suggesting that Disney is planning on putting out more than one batch of post-release content for the destructive Black Rock Studio racer.

The contents of the DLC remain a mystery for now. New vehicles and tracks seem appropriate add on’s to freshen up any racer though.

Exclusives “make sense” to Take-Two

Posted by admin On April - 9 - 2010

TakeTwo CEO Ben Feder believes that platform-exclusive games “make sense” in some situations.

Feder told MCV that while TakeTwo are keen to make their games available to the largest possible audience, sometimes exclusivity can be an advantage. And he should know; TakeTwo are the publishers behind the Xbox 360 timed-exclusive episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV.

“In general, we like to make our content available to as broad of an audience as possible. That said, we’ve partnered with all three hardware manufacturers from time-to-time to create exclusive content.”

“There are times when exclusive games may make sense, either because the platform holder is so excited about it that they are willing to share the investment risk and put an effort behind ensuring a successful launch – as was the case for the episodic content for GTA IV on 360 – or because the content is perfectly suited to the platform – as was the case with Carnival Games for the Nintendo Wii and DS.”

TakeTwo’s upcoming games Agent and LA Noire were both revealed as PS3 exclusives, however the latter has now been confirmed for the Xbox 360 too.
