And yet that’s exactly what happened on Friday night in New Zealand when an actor showed up at a Degree bar with bandages wrapped around his hands and a black imitation handgun, which he proceeded to point at the people drinking outside.

This led someone to shout, “He’s got a gun!” according to one witness, and in response, patrons began to dive behind tables, thinking the man had a real gun. “This bloke with bandages on his hands pointed a gun at customers sitting outside,” said Degree manager Steph Kurtovich. “They were pretty terrified”

The stunt was meant to promote Splinter Cell: Conviction but instead resulted in armed police offers showing up to confront the man, reports the New Zealand Herald (via Kotaku). They were unable to identify the weapon as a fake until they had it in their possession, making this a very dangerous situation.

Venom Light Blaster Gun

Being an old fogy, my memory of a Top Gun videogame involves the NES and a flat, gray cartridge. Paramount Digital Entertainment and Freeverse are quite happy to remind just how far we’ve come since then by announcing the Top Gun App for iPad today.

The iPad version of this existing iPhone and iPod touch app is going to feature a redesigned user interface, high res graphics, and new gameplay. Players will also get an afterburner for their combat aircraft to help avoid “Danger Zone” encounters.

Remember when Afterburner in the arcade used to be impressive? Oh, right. Sorry, old man reminiscing again.

As if there wasn’t enough to do in the ridiculously massive space that Just Cause 2 occupies, it looks like some DLC is underway, and word has spread that the first of it will be launched next week, or April 7 to be exact (and probably April 8 on PSN… Thursday updates and all). With a prequel novel having just been launched this month, now seems like the perfect time to capitalise on the success of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The 2009 mashup novel, which combines zombies with the classic novel Pride and Prejudice, has been turned into an iPhone and iPod Touch game and is set to be launched on the Appshop”by April 2010.” The wording on that doesn’t make it abundantly clear if we can expect the game to be launched in March or sometime in April, but either way, we should be seeing it show up in the next few weeks at most.

The game has been developed by Freeverse, the developer behind a number of Appshopgames including Top Gun, Big Bang Board Games, Burning Monkey Puzzle Lab, Flick Bowling, and Flick Fishing. There’s very little detail about the game outside of the screenshots; the press release describes the game as combining “exciting gameplay, 2.5D graphics,” and support for the Plus+ network, a social network for iPhone and iPod Touch games and apps.
