Classic Game Room reviews MS. PAC MAN for iPad from Namco Bandai, a touch screen, portable version of Ms. Pac-Man playable on the iPad and other mobile devices. How does Ms. Pac Man work with a touchscreen display instead of a real, arcade joystick? Uh, well, the developers have given players three different control schemes for Ms. PacMan. They can play Ms PacMan with a mock-touch screen joystick, Ms. Pac Man with accelerometer tilt and move controls and Ms. Pac-Man with flick and move controls. This CGR review of Ms. Pac Man for iPad has gameplay from Ms Pac Man in this video review of the iPad version of the arcade retro videogame, Ms. Pacman.

Play Pac-Man on Google’s Homepage Today and Tomorrow

Pac-Man on Google

Tomorrow, May 22, marks the 30 year anniversary of the release of Pac-Man in Japan. To celebrate the occasion, Google has altered its logo (called a Google Doodle) as it often does for various occasions, like the invention of the barcode or the Winter Olympics. While the logo you see above looks neat and might seem like a fairly standard standard way for Google to celebrate the original release of Pac-Man, it’s actually much cooler — after waiting for a few seconds or by pressing “Insert Coin” on Google’s homepage, you can actually play Pac-Man right there in your browser with your keyboard’s arrow keys.

According to TheStar.com, the game features all 256 levels — including the infamous bug on level 256 — and will be available for 48 hours, from 8AM PST today (Friday) through 8AM PST on Sunday. It’s the first interactive Doodle that Google has ever done and was created by Google senior user experience designer Marcin Wichary.

For some added fun, you can enable a 2-player mode by pressing “Insert Coin” once the game has already started and play as both Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man, the latter of which you control with the WASD keys.

Dan Slott is well known in the comic community for being a master story teller. As such, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions developer Beenox sought him out to help refine their story and approach. We recently chatted with Slott and picked his mind about his favorite Marvel heroes, how he became a fan of Spider-Man, and his personal experience with Spider-Man videogames.

Mega Man Music: The Blue Bomber Meets Blip Festival

Mega Man Music: The Blue Bomber Meets Blip Festival

The Mega Man 10 sound team draws comparisons between their tunes and live chip music events like NYC’s Blip Festival.

By Jeriaska

It’s been a quarter century since the sound chip for the Nintendo Entertainment System was first manufactured, and to this day it’s still getting a workout. New York City has been witness to a renaissance of high energy low-fi jams, culminating once a year at the world renowned Blip Festival live event.

When Inti Creates brought back the Mega Man series, together with a nostalgia-inducing old school soundtrack, an international 8-bit audio collaboration seemed inevitable. (One form it’s taken is a music CD, launched at the 2009 Tokyo Game Show, called Chiptuned Rockman.)

In this interview with two of Mega Man 10’s composers and a star of Japan’s chiptune scene, the musicians explore the common ground between the Blue Bomber’s soundscapes and the Blip Festival, bound for Japan this September.

Capcom Files Trademark for "Mega Man Universe"

Mega Mans

If seven Mega Man series weren’t enough, another might be on its way. Joystiq noticed a new trademark filed by Capcom on April 21. It goes by “Mega Man Universe,” and the description covers all bases, calling it a computer game, video game, down-loadable game, screensaver, and more. It even mentions cell phones and ring tones, but chances are most of these descriptors are just covering every eventuality.

Now speculation is running rampant about what it may be. A compilation is possible, but Capcom has already published three of them for the various series. It’s worth noting that Capcom has launched two new Mega Man spin-off series each time Nintendo has launched a new handheld. The Gameboy Advance got Mega Man Zero and Battle Network, while the DS had Star Force and Mega Man ZX. If we had to wager a guess, we’d say this trademark is whatever new reboot the company has planned for the 3DS.

This Day in History: Pac-Man Found Legal

Posted by admin On April - 12 - 2010

On this day in 1985, the Federal Communication Commission of the United States rejected charges that the Saturday morning cartoon adaptation of Namco’s Pac-Man was in violation of federal law.

The FCC voted unanimously to dismiss a petition by a consumer activist group called Action for Children’s Television. ACT’s petition alleged that programming such as Pac-Man “blur the distinction between program content and commercial speech,” claiming that Pac-Man was essentially a half-hour commercial for the videogame. Other shows named by ACT included He-Man, G.I. Joe, Rubik the Amazing Cube, and the Smurfs.

Konami Announces the Next Silent Hill

Posted by admin On April - 9 - 2010

At Konami’s press event last night in San Francisco, the company closed the show with a brief glimpse at the next Silent Hill game. The short trailer was light on specifics: a blonde man sits on the edge of a bed holding his head in his hands. The world around him morphs into a dark, deserted road in front of a dilapidated gate. The man hears a sound, turns, sees nothing, then gets attacked by something from the darkness when he turns back.

Will it be another retelling a la the divisive Shattered Memories? An entirely new entry in the series? At this point we don’t even have an official title, so it’s all conjecture.

Pac-Man Shows Up on the Surface of Saturn’s Moon Mimas

NASA Pac-Man infrared on Saturn's moon

Of all the places in the universe to find something resembling Pac-Man, the surface of one of Saturn’s moons probably isn’t particularly high on the list. Beyond a crater on the moon Mimas that causes it to resemble the Death Star, NASA has noticed that the crater — combined with a peculiar infrared temperature reading — makes the moon look very much like the dot-eating protagonist of the Pac-Man games doing what he does best.

When conducting the infrared scan, scientists expected “smoothly varying temperatures peaking in the early afternoon near the equator” on the surface of Mimas. Instead, what they found was what you see above, leading a NASA press release (via The Great Beyond) to even describe the temperature readings as being “along one edge of the moon’s disk, making a sharply defined Pac-Man shape.” While scientists can explain the higher temperature readings in the crater, the overall result has left them “baffled.”

But that doesn’t mean that they’re without any theories. John Spencer, a team member working on the infrared readings that the NASA spacecraft provided, said in the press release, “We suspect the temperatures are revealing differences in texture on the surface,” adding, “It’s maybe something like the difference between old, dense snow and freshly fallen powder.”
