A quick peek at the most interesting games due out in Japan next week, as game reviewed in the latest issue of Famitsu magazine:

- Super Mario Galaxy 2 (10/9/9/9, 37 points): Unsurprisingly, gamers in Japan are just as excited about Miyamoto’s latest as their American counterparts. Famitsu’s editors were especially jazzed about how innovative the stages are this time around — “My hat goes off to how varied the stages are; they never get boring, and there’s a charm to them that makes you want to keep on playing,” one wrote.

“The challenge level of the action and puzzle-solving parts is exquisitely balanced as always,” another added. “You go through these cycles of pondering over some part of the game, finding the answer, and finishing the stage, and it keeps you engaged throughout. It’s just the sort of game you’d expect from the Mario brand.”

On this week’s Game Night, we plan on showcasing Red Dead Redemption and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Most of us agreed that there’s nothing stopping us from enjoying both, so bear with us on this “extreme” venture.

Storm promises that this review is better than his Super Mario Galaxy. He actually covers most of the gameplay and gives a real conclusion. Is Brawl any good? Yeah, it is.

• Mario collects stars as he travels from galaxy to galaxy. Every level is new, but the game retains the charm, sense of wonder and beauty in line with Marios history. Mario works his way through the various levels, sometimes upside-down, sometimes floating from place to place.
• On some stages, Mario can find an egg, smash it open and hop onto the back of Yoshi. Yoshi can use his tongue to grab items and shoot them back at enemies, or to snag attach points and swing across chasms.
• Yoshi has an interesting diet. When he eats a Dash Pepper, he gets so hot and frenzied he can run up steep inclines and vertical walls. When he eats a Blimp Fruit, he inflates like a balloon and floats to new heights.
• New power-ups include a drill that Mario uses to tunnel through the planets surface all the way to the other side of a planet.
• Skilled players will want to collect new Comet Metals, which will unlock harder levels with even more challenges.

My First Impressions of the Wii, and Super Mario Galaxy…

Nintendo’s delayed two of its summer titles; Metroid: Other M and Sin & Punishment: Star Successor. Just slightly though.

Sin & Punishment has slipped from its previous June 1 release and taken Other M’s old date of June 27, while the new Metroid itself is now expected on August 31.

Reasons for the delays weren’t given, just that Nintendo has “updated information for some of its key upcoming software releases”.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 remains unaffected though. It’s still on for a May 23 release in North America and June 11 in Europe.

Nintendo fans looking forward to Metroid: Other M and Sin & Punishment: Star Successor are going to have to wait just a bit longer. A day after rumors emerged that the two games had been delayed, Nintendo issued a confirmation along with new release dates.

Originally slated for June 27, Metroid: Other M is now due at the end of August. Sin & Punishment will be moving back from the beginning of June to take Metroid’s place.

The news doesn’t entirely negate what looks to be a fairly busy summer for Nintendo. Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be kicking the season off with a May 23 release date.

Let’s face it, you’re looking forward to Super Mario Galaxy 2 already. If you’re not, then you’re just not human. But there is hope for you yet; this charming trailer should tide you over. The short footage brings insights into new gameplay powers like Cloud Mario, allowing you to spin up a new platform in mid-air.
