I wrapped up Ben and JT’s old RRoD Xbox 360 as a gag this year!

My old 2005 console got RROD 3 three times I don’t play that much 1-2 hours a week or more. Should I buy a Xbox 360 Slim 250HDD or just switch to my PlayStation 3 and only do gaming on that machine. Keep on mine I have a ps3 and Xbox 360.
For me PS3 was just watching movies and playing ps3 exclusives, some huge titles are coming out in 2011 and I just like playing them on Xbox 360. So I need help

I’ve been through an Xbox360 (rrod), a PS3 (power failure) and two psps (shoulder button lock & read errors) – all within 6 months of purchase. I stress I’m an older gamer, I’m really careful with my stuff and treat it properly. As testament I still own 4 immaculate original xbox consoles. Are ALL these current new gen consoles cheap rubbish, or am I just very very unlucky?
Is a psp with a screen protector and its own case- when not in use a harsh environment? I don’t go abseiling with it or anything. Nah seriously, consumers don’t generally spend a lot of money just to trash their equipment. It’s an old industry excuse.

ok i got the rrod back in november so sent it away and got another one back (which clearly wasn’t mine was a refurb) but anyways after 2 weeks of having it, it wont read the disks 1st time you have to keep opening and closing the tray can range from either once to twenty times tbh. Anyways now when im turning it on it is freezing on the main screen it seems to freeze when its showing me my friends that are online. Anyone know if this can be fixed (doubt it) but will microsoft repair it as it seems as though they have sent a dud item back?

I wonder what the score is now with MS repairing xbox 360s particulally for RROD.

I’ve just sent mine back via UPS all the way to Frankfurt in Germany which seems a long way from the UK, even if they repair it i can imagine it’ll be knackered again by the time it gets back to me.

It’s 18 months old so still under the 3 yr warranty, is it true they are exchanging the consoles for a brand new unit now?
If not, has anyone had the RROD rcome back after an official repair?
Are they using the brand new chips (called Jasper i think) that come in the latest consoles?

I’m really at a cross roads with this, if the problem returns then i’m going to junk it and buy a PS3 which sound a million times more reliable.

I want to buy a x-box 360 but the faults and RROD creep me out,I cant spend my hard earned cash knowing that my console is living on borrowed time so is there such a thing as a problem free console for 360 I also heard that mid 2007 360 consoles and up are problem free and dont have the RROD,Is that true? Thanks for reading.

Are the new 60GB 360’s anymore reliable, do the fans sound any quieter compared to the 20GB launch models from 2005-2006 as thats what i have and it just RRoD on me the other day, so am looking into buying a new 360 thats less prone to the RRoD happening

When will the jasper chipset be put into the 360 aswell?

As i’ve read that this will make 360’s more reliable and cooler

Also is the falcon chipset quite reliable?

I have an xbox for 13 months and it just came down with a case of rrod so i rang microsoft to ask about the extended warranty only to discover that it did not cover my system error.

RROD is when 3 segments flash red, I had one flashing segement but it was still a system error and the console will not work after trying everything. they said it will cost 96 euro to fix excluding VAT how rubbish is microsoft? I bet the ps3 isnt experencing these issues.

I have a ps2 since its launch, i turnned in on today to play resi 4 and it worked perfectly after Ive been using it as a stand for my sky box for the past year. I seriously doubt the xbox 360 will keep working for that lenght of time!!

Hi all,
I, like many before me, experienced the dreaded RROD about 3-4 months ago.
I took to google like a man possesed and after a trip to B&Q for screws and washers and mini screw drivers I managed to successfully stick it to Microsoft by hanging on to my £90 and fixing it myself.
It was great, just like new again and all my troubles had gone away (well at least to do with my 360 anyway!)
Was it too good to be true? For me it seems it was.
I came home,switched on, and whilst loading up Forza3 my xbox just froze on me..
Hmmm, “that’s odd” I thought to myself.
I turned it off, gave it a minute to compose itself and then turned it on again. Only this time the hairs on the back of neck shot up as the area of the room in front of my console was bathed in the deathly red glow of the RROD!
Perhaps I didn’t do as good a job as I thought I had a few months ago.
So an hour of tinkering later and I’ve performed the exactly the same repair all over again only this time to no avail.
I’m now back to square one with three flashing red lights.
Any suggestions?
