Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Considered for PS3

Posted by admin On May - 4 - 2010

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is first and foremost a PlayStation hand-held game, but Konami could be considering releasing a port of the title to the PlayStation 3 through PSN. GamePro reports that at a recent Q&A session, the company asked for thoughts on releasing the game to the PS3 through PSN, and including online multi-player. The developers reportedly wrote down the answers that the journalists gave.

This doesn’t necessarily mean anything. Konami could have been recording all answers, developing another project, or just considering options. But Peace Walker is being compared in scope to the main MGS series — some have even called it Metal Gear Solid 5. It makes sense on a technical and business level to port the game to PS3. We’ll keep our ears to the ground on this one.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is out in Japan. After a day playing and exploring Snake’s new abilities, I’m starting to see that it isn’t a side chapter like 2006’s Metal Gear Solid hand-held Ops — it’s essentially Metal Gear Solid 5.

The game’s opening sequence has been available as a demo since TGS 2009. However, to avoid spoilers, Kojima Productions removed several key lines from the cinematics for that version. With the missing lines restored for this final release, Peace Walker’s story begins rolling from the very beginning.

Peace Walker is perfect, according to Famitsu

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is still some ways off from release in the US and Europe, but Japan will finally get its mitts on the game on the 28th of this very month. With just a week to go before Snake’s 5th adventure sneaks onto the gaming scene, Japanese mag Famitsu has game reviewed the game, awarding it 2010’s first 40/40. Impressive, Snake.

The game launches June 8th for US, and 17th for PAL territories.

Snake might be rockin’ the Doritos and sensible Uniqlo tops in his latest game, but Hideo Kojima is still, deep inside his heart, all about the gameplay. That’s the message he tried his best to communicate to Famitsu magazine’s Hirokazu Hamamura in an interview published in this week’s issue, conducted to celebrate Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker going gold in Japan. (The fact that Hamamura himself appears in Japanese advertising for the game perhaps goes a long way to explain why no further questions about Peace Walker’s multi-faceted tie-in campaign were asked.)

The interview, while not giving out any major news that eagle-eyedreaders wouldn’t already know from our previous coverage, is full of the little tidbits, subtle slams (“There’s really only about five ‘game designers’ in Japan”) and neat quotes that make any Kojima interview worth at least a browse. Some highlights:

- The way Kojima puts it, Peace Walker is the biggest game he’s ever worked on. “Nearly all the things one can do with a hand-held system are in here,” he said. “It’s just a huge amount of volume! I can hardly even ponder over it all. We wound up having to shift the release date as a result, but there was so much content that there was no way we could run QA on it all in time. I’ve never experienced anything like this before.”

Kojima moving on to a “confidential project”

Posted by admin On April - 20 - 2010

Just a few days ago, Hideo Kojima said that he couldn’t keep his mind on the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for thoughts of his “next title.” Now, it seems as if that next title has taken a backseat to a second unknown project.

Kojima tweeted about his divided attention yesterday, saying: “I’m going to leave my next project to the side while I focus on the “Confidential Project.””

No word on what either of the unnamed projects might turn out to be, but hopefully something will appear in the coming months. If not for our selfish gaming ways, then for Kojima’s sanity; juggling too many projects is apt to drive a man mad.
